i canned a piece of luck today, which happens, on average, about a day and a half every year. i'm more than halfway to beat this year's odds. i mean, i've never won Bingo in my life. except maybe once... i feel like i almost remember approaching the stage and being handed a puzzle one of the coordinators bought at a rummage sale. anyway, i fell asleep twice in class today. the kind of sleep that makes even headaches go bad - my head uncomfortably tilted in the palm of my hand, while the rest of my body slouched at a 37 degree angle in an auditorium chair, my leg swung over the chairback in front of me as if it were arguing with gravity and losing. one coffee, class, and hot walk to the union later, i was buying the littlest line of post-it notes and magic tape to act as "labelled captions" on my binded clips.
today was one of the last days i could turn in a few pieces from my portfolio to one (of two) of the fall internships i'm banking on. and yes, i'm banking..... i can't be afraid of jinxing... i just want the goddamn job. so, i finished tabbing my binds, and caught the bus downtown. of course, the 'oven-ready' weather is back to feeling as though the devil is breathing down my neck, and maybe so. i switched gears at the corner of 3rd and 4th, swapped my sandals for heels, entered the building, fell in love (ironic how, yet despite my lessons in love, i fall without consent) with the tigeroak flooring (also ironic, the company is Tiger Oak Pub... and i also want to point out that i now know what tiger oak wood is - thank you Midwest Home) handed off my pieces and was once again in the wrath of a Midwestern summer. might as well be Texas. equally hated in my mind.
anyway, i dropped off my last bunch on the way to my office building, while already thirty minutes late, glowing and stomach growling, and finally found myself trying to cool off by eating a yogurt. strangely, it worked.
1:45pm: two new in inbox, one from: Meghan McAndrews, Tiger Oak Assistant Editor - wants me to "come in for informal interview"... "impressed by your work"..... "see you Thursday."
ok..... apparently, i cost time! this is wonderful news, and it did make me feel a little bit more hopeful for the coming months. i mean, as lonely, bored and busy as i've been this summer, i've managed to surround myself with some of my most favored things: coffee, magazines, and nice clothing. my class is over in a week. i'm going home for a week - counteracting the fact that i'm getting only two of my wisdom teeth pulled, leaving the others for December. at least i'll get to spend a lot of time in my most favorite bed, next to open windows, eating ice cream. August usually pampers me.... maybe this year's came a little soon.
