country songs help. it helps that i surrendered myself to country music about eight years ago (she knows she deserves the credit). i feel sort of sappy, but it beats feeling blue. the best part of country music is it reminds me of where i come from and it reminds me of some of the best summers, some of the best moments... and now they just seem like wrinkles in the fabric of my life. so when i hear an old carolyn dawn song, "mrs. steven rudy," or any single from kenny chesney's 'no shirt, no shoes, no problem' album - yeah, i'm going to turn my radio on, and keep it on. it's like there's a country song for every good moment in my life. it makes me think of whispers, smiles, hands, fast cars (and i'm not talking about rascal flatts), cheap vodka, and i think if the wind is blowing through my hair mid-country song, it's the one and only time i don't mind.

we finally turned the radio off on the second floor today for what is practically the first time all weekend. it was like we had our own festival going on (which may certainly have been the case Friday night). i listend to it on the way to the salon, and i knew i was cutting off my hair when i parked my car to 'just might have her radio on' by trent tomlinson. but before i gave her the go, i asked her how many inches was equivalent to a couple of years. she answered, about five - six inches. and i said, that sounds great. so there it went.... i tried not to let it run through my fingers, because i don't want this sort of substance to be another that i let my fingers touch. but an hour later - i emerged from Juut feeling a little new. it's good.

"without history our lives amount to nothing. at some point we all have to choose - do we fall back on what we know or do we step forward to something new? it's hard not to be haunted by our past. our history is what shapes us, what guides us. our history resurfaces time after time after time. though we have to remember.... the most important history is the history we are making today." -Grey's
